These disability training modules were created by UNE Doctor of Physical Therapy students as a research project in conjunction with Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation. Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation (MASR) is a non-profit organization that provides free adaptive sport lessons to individuals with disabilities. MASR programs provide opportunities for physical activity in a safe and social environment with the support of trained staff and volunteers. Every year, new and returning volunteers receive training to prepare to work with individuals with disabilities. MASR’s traditional training program lacked a formal curriculum to understand the health conditions of the participants they would be working with. MASR sought to develop an alternative training method that could be instituted at various times throughout the season in an easily accessible manner. Six training modules regarding the most common disabilities seen by MASR volunteers were created to meet this need.
Use the training modules pre-test here (under Additional Files) to assess knowledge prior to engaging with the training modules.
