Description

Shirley Dean (right), Westbrook Junior College, Portland, Maine, Class of 1941, and an unidentified classmate, perch on a curbside railing, in the snow, in front of a wooden house and porch, most probably Johnson House, in this black and white candid snapshot developed in April 1941 by Bicknell Photo Service.

Written in black ink on the back of the photo is: Shirley Dean. Shirley wears shorts and a short-sleeve white blouse. She has a pair of woolen gloves on her hands and she holds a snowball. Her classmate wears shorts, high boots and a sweater with the sleeves pushed up over her elbows. Both girls smile and squint against the glare of the snow in bright sunlight.
