Description

Two Westbrook Junior College students study in their dormitory room in this sepia toned 1941 photograph by Jackson - White, Portland, Maine. Barbara Thomas, WJC, Class of 1941 sits at a desk, her notebooks spread before her. Textbooks, held between 'dog' bookends, and a pen and ink stand are visible on the desk.

Barbara holds a fountain pen in her right hand and leans on her left elbow. Her study colleague sits beside her in a padded straight chair with a notebook open on her lap. Both girls wear woolen skirts and sweaters. Barbara has a short scarf tied at her neck; her companion has a collar and yarn-tie at her neck. Barbara's hair is rolled and curled. Her younger companion's hair is shorter and curled. Both girls look down, eyes intently on their notebooks.
