Description

The Westbrook Junior College 1948 snow queen and her court pose at the Snow Carnival Ball held at the Eastland Hotel, Portland, Maine, in this sepia toned photograph. The Queen wears a glittery crown and sits on a satin covered throne with two of her princesses standing on either side of her. Written in pencil in large letters on the back of the photograph is: "Eastland WJC Ball. L to R. Dorothy French, Nancy Dinsmore, Joyce Berkoff, Gay Reynolds, ______ ."

The Queen and her court are wearing winter ball gowns made of velvet or taffeta. Two wear off-the-shoulder formal gowns with long evening gloves; two have bare arms with corsages pinned to their bodices; and one wears a long sleeve dress and a wrist corsage. All have necklaces of rhinestones, pearls or ribbon.
