Description

Six Westbrook Junior College students, dressed in their Sunday best and wearing paint hats, assist with street cleaning in this black and white photograph labeled 1965 on the back. Three of the young women push large street cleaning brooms, and three carry paint cans, bending at the waist to sweep the street with paint brushes. Two men in dress coats also push large street cleaning brooms. The eight are lined up in front of a garbage or trash truck and a fire engine. Tied to the grill work of the fire engine is a poster reading, "Clean up don't burn up". The location appears to be Congress St., Portland, Maine.
