Description

A Westbrook Seminary male student from the Class of 1904 is wearing a dark cap and gown in this mounted black and white Commencement photograph by Kennedy, Portland, ME. Barely visible beneath his closed gown is a white shirt and tie. The student sits in a dark wicker chair, his right elbow resting on a table covered with a dark floor-length cloth. The student looks squarely and seriously into the camera.

Printed in ink on the back of the photo is Carl Scates. A Karl Desmond Scates is listed as a Junior, 1905, in the Catalogue of the Officers and Students of Westbrook Seminary for the Academic Year Ending June 24, 1904. However, the individual photos for the Class of 1905 are unmounted, smaller images.
