Description

Eleven Westbrook Junior College, Portland, Maine, students pose in a Hersey Hall parlor in this sepia toned 1934 photograph. Four girls stand in the back row. In the middle row, five girls sit on the arms and seat of a sofa while one girl sits in a straight chair. A single girl is seated on the floor in the front. All wear skirts and sweaters, or wool dresses and suits, with dark hose and shoes.

The students pose in a room corner with doors on either side of them. On one wall behind them is a large painting and gilded frame. An "art square" or patterned rectangle of carpet is visible on the floor.

Hair styles are short and curly, and parted on the side or in the middle.
