Description

Madeline Gertrude Philbrick and Shirley Marie Deane, Westbrook Junior College, Class of 1941, roll a big snowball in front of Johnson House in this black and white candid snapshot developed by Bicknell Photo Service, Portland, Maine, on April 18th, 1941.

Written in black ink on the back of the photo is: Maddie + Shirley 1940-41 (Dean)." Shirley wears shorts and a short-sleeve white blouse. She has a pair of woolen gloves on her hands and she bends at the waist in order to reach the snow. Maddie wears shorts, high boots and a sweater with the sleeves pushed up over her elbows. She, too, bends at the waist to work on the large ball of snow. Both girls smile directly at the camera and squint against the glare of the snow in bright sunlight.
