Seven Westbrook Junior College students listen to the radio, in their dormitory lounge or smoker, on a rainy Sunday in this 1957 black and white photograph, labeled "Rainy Sunday" in pencil on the back. The young women surround a card table upon which sits a portable radio with a large plastic station dial.
Two girls sit on either side of the radio at the card table. Two sit to the right of the card table on a couch or sofa; one writes on a notepad, the other eats an apple. Two girls sit on the floor directly in front of the card table; one studies a textbook laying across her bent knees, the other knits with circular needles. One young woman sits to the left, writing at a separate table. All smile, but look toward the radio or at their own occupations.
