Description of Work
"Midwinter" was written in memory of my sister, Shannon Williams, who died at age 49 in 2007 from alcohol-related issues. The poem was intended to capture the paradox of her life...what we saw and what we didn't see. Her life served as a point of reassessment and resetting for me...a new beginning...as I discovered great empathy and love in that grief. And it marked my new journey as a poet. Starting with her eulogy eight years ago, I have written over a hundred poems.
