Description

Another view of the city of Porto, featuring one of the six bridges that connect Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia, across the Douro River. In this photo is the Dom Luís I bridge, built in the 1880s.

Porto gives Portugal its name. The Romans named this city Portus Cale, meaning 'Port of Cale' -- a reference to the Galicians.
