Megan Wassef is a graduate student at the College of Graduate and Professional Studies at the University of New England and expects to graduate with her Masters degree in Public Health in summer 2019. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in cellular and molecular biology from Connecticut College in 2017. In addition, she was awarded the Alvan T. Viola Fuller Junior Research Fellowship from the American Cancer Society to conduct research in the Genetics Department at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/ Harvard Medical School in 2016. Her research studied the role of MEK inhibition on apoptotic signaling in pancreatic cancer cell lines. For her biology capstone project, she completed an independent study which examined the activity levels and courtship behavior in different strains of Drosophila melanogaster fruit flies. In the fall of 2019, she will begin medical school at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her research interests include the clinical application of epidemiology, social health determinants, and public health genetics. In addition, she is excited to use her medical and public health skills to improve patients wellness through preventative treatment and individualized care in her future practices.
