Description
Taking a multidisciplinary approach to addressing patient needs creates an opportunity to address the source of a patient's symptoms, while providing an emotionally safe space for the patient to feel seen. This case demonstrates a potential approach for providing medical, dental, and mental healthcare to a patient experiencing deficits in multiple aspects of the social determinants of health. Taking time to listen to the patient's social needs and goals and including the patient in determining the course of treatment will assist in addressing current basic needs, while educating and empowering the patient moving forward.
