Description
Six Westbrook Junior College students play bridge and snack on a dormitory floor in this mid-1950s black and white photograph taken by William M. Rittase of Philadelphia, PA. Engrossed in their game, the six young women relax in their pajamas and house coats while feasting on cake--perhaps a birthday cake received from home in honor of a student's 19th birthday.
In the photo background are two wooden dormitory desks and chairs. One desk is covered with books and folders. The other is uncluttered, prominently featuring an 8 x 10 photograph of a young man in a U.S. Marine's uniform. The edge of a dormitory bed with coverlet and stuffed animal is visible on the left of the photo.
