Description

Four Westbrook Junior College freshmen, suitcases in hand, are greeted and welcomed by a Junior Dean in this 1954 black and white photograph by William M. Rittase of Philadelphia, PA. The four young women wear spring-fall coats, white gloves, nylons and heels and stand on the sidewalk between the Campus Green and Hersey Hall. The upper class Junior Dean wears her white WJC blazer and JD armband.

Theresa D. Vangeli [Wheaton], Class of 1955, shakes hands with the Junior Dean. Theresa Vangeli was featured in a mid-1950s admissions brochure for which this picture was taken.

In the photo background are Alumni Hall, McArthur Gymnasium and across College St., Deering House. Deering House, shown here with added dormers to increase space, served as student housing from 1941 into the 1960s.
