Description
Seventeen Westbrook College students pose on either side of two signs in this mid-late 1980s glossy, black and white photograph. The eleven young women on either side of the "Wild Life Sanctuary" sign wear large dark glasses, biker jackets, and bandanas around their necks or foreheads. Their demeanor, with cigarettes hanging from their lower lips, would lead us to believe they are a bit on the wild side, or have just stepped off the set of a Westside Story revival or a rewind of Grease, the musical.
The six young women on either side of the sign, "Possession or Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages is Prohibited on These Premises," appear to be studious and conforming, deeply involved with their lecture notes and Webster's. Peering through large-rimmed eye glasses, they wear skirts and sweaters and loafers, and carry their books in L.L. Bean bags. Might they be taking a reprieve from a Sandra Dee movie? . . . Or perhaps all seventeen are on break from a Happy Days episode?
