Deborah N. Morton (1857-1947) shelves books in Westbrook Junior College's Hersey Hall Library in this 1930 glossy, sepia toned photograph. Three students study at two library tables, one in the foreground and two in the background. The three young women wear dresses, and nylon stockings with Cuban-heeled dress shoes. Their hair is bobbed and short.

Deborah Nichols Morton was an 1879 graduate of Westbrook Seminary & Female Collegiate Institute, valedictorian of her class, and a teacher, preceptress, educator, lecturer, and reformer. She was associated with Westbrook Seminary and Junior College for over 60 years, and her life of service centered around her Westbrook experience. The Deborah Morton Society and Award are named in her honor.
