Description
Three Westbrook Junior College students and Deborah N. Morton (1857-1947) study in the Library on the first floor of Hersey Hall in this 1930 sepia toned photograph. Deborah Nichols Morton was a teacher, dean, linguist, historian, and prominent Portland civic leader whose service to Westbrook Seminary and Junior College spanned more than 60 years.
The Deborah Morton Award is presented to outstanding Maine women who have achieved high distinction in their careers and public service, or whose leadership in civic, cultural or social causes has been exceptional.
The three Westbrook Junior College students studying at tables in the Hersey Hall Library are: Jane Hyde, Class of 1930 (back right); Harriet Dodge, Class of 1930 (back left); and Norma Virginia Morse (foreground).
