Description
McArthur Gymnasium, Westbrook Junior College, Portland, Maine, built in 1900 by the prominent Maine architect Francis Fassett (1823-1908), is shown here, in the 1930s/40s, with dark front steps and a low hedge fronting the yard which separated the Gym from Alumni Hall. This black and white photograph shows the combination of Romanesque and Gothic architectures--the round brick archway on the front combined with the Gothic angular shapes in the roofline and the corners.
