The Sandra and Bernard Featherman University Archives began recording oral histories in 2019 as a way to preserve the institutional memories of long-serving staff and faculty. We first focused on recording interviews with people who could shed light on the history of the university due to their pivotal roles and unique perspectives on the university’s transformation. In 2022, we began to collect interviews with students, staff, and alumni to broaden the stories that the Archives holds. Our goal is to collect and share stories that will help us to understand the many types of experiences people have on our campuses.

Some of the oral histories included in this project were recorded by students who were taking a course on oral history at UNE. Those oral histories are identified as student projects, and have abbreviated transcriptions of the interviews.

If you are interested in sharing your story, please contact UNE Librarian Cathleen Miller.
